MSI,

<<the hype was incredible>>

Absolutely! And none of it was Kamen's doing. When Inside Mag first broke the story the public drank it up like a dry desert in a rainstorm. Frustration and disappointment were inevitable. But anyone who really paid attention, or read this thread from the get go, was not fooled by the hype and pretty much got what they expected.

The gravity well of insatiable public need goes to something else widespread in our society that I've not quite been able to put my finger on. It's a most curious phenomenon.

Re your comment on rural uses, Dean Kamen said that Segway performs terrifically in the snow. How deep snow he didn't say! I gather from his comments that Segway would have little difficulty negotiating any terrain a mountain bike could.

Re the weight issue: Has anyone read or heard how much Segway weighs?

PS -- The thread is #5 on the Hot Subjects list! It seems to be attracting some new posters. But, then again, SI is but a shadow of its former self and that might not mean much. <sigh>
