Bush Greets Boxing Champ John Ruiz

WASHINGTON (AP) - President George W. Bush on Thursday greeted boxer John Ruiz and congratulated him on becoming the nation's first Hispanic heavyweight champion.

Bush and Ruiz chatted for a few minutes and posed for photographs in the Oval Office. Ruiz showed Bush his World Boxing Association championship belt and gave the president a black-and-white, left boxing glove that he had signed.

``Only one?'' Bush said jokingly.

Ruiz won the title by defeating Evander Holyfield in Las Vegas on March 3. Britain's Lennox Lewis is the reigning World Boxing Council and International Boxing Federation champion.
