Colin, you can preference anyone you like, though I doubt you would want to preference someone further down the list, unless you just HAVE to close the position. Also, you aren't necessarily guaranteed a fill when you preference, since someone may just beat you to it, or the MM is in the process of backing away, etc, etc.
