I have lived in the same house/town in a suburb of the people's republic of Seattle for 31 years . When I moved here this town did not have a stop light. It did not have a lot of things, but one thing it did have was a strongly conservative backbone. Then the liberals discovered that this area has location, location, location and started moving in in the droves in the late '80s and all throughout the '90s. Every little liberal initiative, measure, ballot issue etc (fire, 911, rta, professional football coach at each elementary) was passed overwhelmingly.
Then the liberal politicians started literally dictating land issues in the county, which affects our city to a great extent, and the good old boys on my City Council supported them. (by far, the GMA is the largest govt land control entity in my state.) As a result, and for the last few years, candidates for local jurisdictions in my area have become more and more conservative, and they are starting to come out of the woodwork. In the latest City Council run off, that is taking place Aug 21, 5 out of 7 candidates are conservative.
Regardless of the Kelo decision, conservatives are much more likely to preserve and protect private property rights. At least that is what I am witnessing here in my small little town. |
