<<I'm sure not a city person, but I have some doubts about ethanol, too. F'r instance, it's hygroscopic, and "gasohol" can absorb enough water to seriously reduce power and make an engine very hard to start. And, it produces fewer BTUs per gallon than gasoline, so it is much less energy efficient. Not to mention that producing it, at least as things now stand, requires more energy than it provides. And, it costs more at the pump than gasoline.>>

People used to buy Heat. 100% alcohol to absorb the water and avoid gas line freeze. Now it's in the gas. The alcohol may be 10% less on power but it burns 60% of the gas that wouldn't normally be burned. Our co-op did a study and 10% ethanol got 2% better mileage.

Now for the taking more energy than it provides crap, corn is grown for high gluten feed and oil. That;s going to be grown anyway. What's used to make ethanol was the waste.
