I agree with what you say about people using religion to gain a greater mandate in office. I think that is politics at its worst.

However, what you may not remember is that this country has an incredibly long tradition of Presidents invoking God in their speeches. Bush is nothing new. A few posts back I proved how JFK did it all the time. The reason why Presidents do it, for the most part, is because most of our Presidents are Christian. So they are simply expressing their beliefs. There is nothing wrong with that.

Where it crosse over into the wrong is if the President preaches from the pulpit in such a way as to denigrate other faiths. As long as they are expressing their own beliefs, but not selling the religion to anyone, then there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. And...I'd point out that most past American Presidents would agree with me, judging from the contents of their speeches.
