Ahh, those Portland papers-- From the Business Section of todays SJ Mercury News-- Regional Bells: 3 can't immediately provide long-distance to local customers WASHINGTON (AP) -- Three regional Bell telephone companies lost an appeal Friday to immediately provide long-distance service to local phone customers. In a victory for the government, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit reversed a controversial Dec. 31 ruling that gave SBC Communications, U.S. West and Bell Atlantic a clear path into the $90 billion long-distance business. mercurycenter.com
