I feel DEC is misleading Wall Street in that DEC has yet to provide ample evidence (or even a hint) that would clearly indicate Intel's technology is similar to DEC's in anything other than a general ("textbook") way. As I noted earlier, I found 50-odd patents that Intel held with respect to one of the areas DEC mentioned.

As for DEC's timing... Does anyone find it peculiar that DEC waited until mass-migration to Windows NT was finally occurring(now)? That is, seeing as to how the DEC Alpha could NOT run Windows 3.1 or '95, and how Win NT CAN be run on a DEC Alpha. It seems to me DEC may well have premediated this "bomb" for some time in order to discredit Intel and therefore take away Win NT share. Said another way, now DEC can finally get away with pissing off Intel since Microsoft wrote NT to be portable across DEC and Intel chips -- even last year such a move by DEC could have been dangerous.

...and what about the recent "Pentium bug hoax"...is the proximity to the "DEC bomb" mere coincidence?

We're still effectively left with the question "Can the mainframe sue the success of the PC"? I should think not.
