What is the name of the file and how was it discovered? What operating system are you using and what version of Norton Anti-virus? Are your virus definitions current?

Here's an explanation of the .vir extension from Symantec. You'll have to copy and paste the whole link below into your browser window to get it to work.

Before attempting to repair an infected file, Norton AntiVirus makes a backup copy of the infected file and gives it the extension .vir. These files are displayed with a black bug icon.
A file has been manually renamed with the .vir extension.
