At an average of $100k per year, doubling to cover taxes and benefits, MC's $18mm cost 90 people their jobs. More if they weren't as well paid.
It's nice to see that these guys are concerned with the welfare of the stockholders and employees.
I had been on the fence about MC for the last 2 years. This, however, is ridiculous. Outright greed and arrogance.
Assuming 90 additional people were hired/kept in positions, I'm not sure we could say HPQ would be a better/stronger company. However, it would be 90 people who aren't being a burden on the unemployment rolls, missing monthly payments, or confronting bankruptcy.
MC didn't, and now absolutely WON'T have to face any of those things. I am sure he sleeps well at night with all that cash, because there are a number of people wondering where their next paycheck will come from due to him.
