Well, I still don't regard the system as a ripoff but I agree that the NASDQ is a less desirable floor for retail trading than the NYSE. I've seen the same thing happen on the NYSE but invariably on low volume situations and the AMEX was always worse than the NASDQ. On the NASDQ, I recall Sun Micro some years ago trading at something like 23 1/4 bid--23 1/2 asked and I had a client with a bid in for 500 shares at 23 3/8.....the stock traded huge volume and lots of 23 1/4s for days but the trade never went off.
