Nugent is such a marginal (and obviously nutty) character, I think people just don't care. I tend to ignore the fringes. It's not like you can do anything about them, or that they bring anything to the party- and it's just sad to watch them. There's that sense of pity, mingled with a sense of disgust when you notice them- that isn't really pleasant.

Sometimes the fringes are (unintentionally) funny- but most of the time they're just sad and pathetic, and kind of gross.
