I agree - it looks to me like Capellas couldn't figure a way to win at CPQ, so he devised an exit plan which ensured his personal wealth and executed. On the one hand, you have to hand it to the guy - he took a weak job at CPQ (CIO) and parlayed it into over $20M, and made himself a top tier player in the process.

But on the other hand he took a once great company and basically made it disappear. He had some help in that department from Pfeiffer, Mason et.al. but his track record at CPQ sure could have been better.
