He should've at least confessed to his fellow Republicans in a caucus before the selection of speaker to let them know of the matter to avert any surprise given the current atmosphere. from Washington Post today: Recalling the congressional debate over the Gulf War resolution in January 1991, Lott said, "I don't believe there was a single Democrat who voted for it." In reality, 10 Senate Democrats, including Vice President Gore, then a senator from Tennessee, and 86 House Democrats supported the resolution. Lott apparently forgot that in 1991, Democrats controlled both the House and Senate, meaning the resolution could not have passed without Democratic votes. >>>Amazing how so few Democrats could support the Gulf War. 10 >>>senators out of the majority party, and 86 out of probably 220-240 >>>reps.
