Although I can't take credit for for phrase. I believe it comes from a New Testament story about how the rich temple members would try to make a lot of clanking noises with their collection offerings so that everyone would think they were very generous. Then a woman in some raggedy clothing came along and dropped a couple nearly worthless tin or copper coins in.....and Haysoos remarked that her offering was more valuable than everyone elses because she gave all she had.
