Your comments about Palmer are really intersting, and on-target.

If this thing even starts to blowup in DEC's face, my guess is that Palmer will be history and his successor will settle immediately [probably his first official act in office, almost literally], on terms very favorable to Intel.

This could well happen, there is a precedent for it. About two years ago, Pfeifer [spelling ?] at Compaq was on a personal vendetta against Intel. It ended up being a disaster for Compaq, cost them millions when they ended up with the wrong inventory [AMD 486's] because he wouldn't buy Intel chips. I heard reports, unconfirmed, that the board told him to get the chip off his shoulder or else, and Compaq returned to Intel's fold and the "feud" was history [although it seems to me he still has "feelings"]. And Compaq returned to unprecedented profitability.

Same thing could happen here with Palmer and DEC, except that in this case I think that Palmer would have to go as part of [or a precondition for] a settlement.
