Hi FB: I think you have correctly identified the problem in using percentages.

That one paragraph in the article creates the impression that Microsoft is taking over the networking market while Novell fades into the sunset. I hope this is not true. However, Microsoft may well be gaining new network customers faster than Novell.

Is Novell's 2% growth rate of new sales enough to sustain it as a viable company? Probably not. However, just upgrading existing customers frequently would keep them in business for a long time.
