I doubt that since it will probably be a Winmodem [software modem]. Hardware modems work better [Hayes makes one for $60]. But I don't know if Dell gives the customer a choice. If they don't I'd try the Dell-supplied modem first. The one in my Dell laptop is a Lucent Winmodem and works OK.

I think box makers ship with Winmodems because they're cheaper.
