>>> I don't think it worked.

How can a rational person make such a claim?

XM had net retail adds of 782,000 net new subscribers in Q4.

Maybe Sirius had about a million.

Sirius has spent $610 million to date, and will spend at least another $100 million before it is over, for this one-quarter, or at most, two-quarter success.

So, XM spent $70 million in Q4 to "stay in the ballpark" in the face of what can only be characterized as suicidal spending by its competition.

I think it worked well. It would have been nice if they had beaten their upped guidance. But they were close, passed it within a couple days after year end, and didn't destroy their P&L for the next five years.
