Many would consider GOP's God/Guns/Gays approach to be the ultimate form of political pandering. Dean is saying other issues are more important to the nation. And leave the states to decide their own policies on other divisive issues. Makes a lot more sense than attempting to create wedge issues, as the GOP decided to do in '68
