Good News From Iraq Spells Bad News For Hollywood
LIBERTAS
— Dirty Harry @ 8:01 am

War-profiteers in the form of movie studios and filmmakers were counting on bad news from Iraq to help their anti-war films capture the national mood and boost box-office. Unfortunately for them, even Katie Couric (who deserves enormous credit for actually taking a look at Iraq herself) is reporting on the "significant progress" she's seeing.

Liberals in general, and Hollywood liberals in particular, completely misread the negative opinion polls. They mistakenly thought that upwards of 60% of America agreed with them that we weren't losing the war fast enough and therefore needed to pull out in order to expedite surrender. On the contrary, dissatisfaction has to due with the fact that it didn't look like we were winning in Iraq. As hard as it may be to believe, most people don't want to see an American defeat.

With the coming Petraeus report to Congress and a general sense that things might be turning around, Hollywood's cynical attempt to cash-in on a losing war with a spate of defeatist anti-American films couldn't be more ill-timed. These films were probably going to lose money when things looked bleak in Iraq. They're doomed now.
