Compaq rounds out management with CTO

Compaq Computer today filled the last major vacancy in its management staff.
Shane V. Robison, a former AT&T executive, will fill Compaq's long-vacant position of chief technology officer.
Robison is leaving AT&T Labs, where he was president of Internet technology, to join Compaq. Robison also worked at software and consulting company Cadence Design Systems, where he served as president of the design productivity group.
Compaq has been slowly filling senior management openings since the April 1999 shakeup that ousted former CEO Eckhard Pfeiffer. It took Compaq until February of this year to fill the position of chief financial officer vacated by Earl Mason. Jesse Greene now holds the position.
"Shane Robison is uniquely qualified to help the Compaq team advance its strategic growth plan from both an internal and external perspective," Compaq chief executive Michael Capellas said in a statement. "Shane joins the company at an exciting time, as we move forward with a clear business strategy that will fully harness his expertise in Internet-based technologies as well as in the development of more cool stuff from Compaq."
In July, Compaq beefed up its marketing operations in an effort to boost its brand awareness, leaving just the CTO's office as the major management position open.
The CTO announcement comes less than a week after Capellas was named chairman of Compaq's board. He fills the position vacated by retiring Compaq co-founder Ben Rosen. |
