The i960RP/RD remains the ONLY single-chip I2O solution, regardless
of ISI's pronouncements. ISI, or any RTOS vendor for that matter, can
buy the PLX software and provide a MINIMAL I2O platform with their
stock RTOS offering. As I have said before, IxWorks provides a DMA
service that was specifically developed for I2O, and without it, other
solutions would NOT provide the services necessary for platform-
independent I2O device drivers to function. I consider the ISI I2O
product to be a token effort at this point - they simply had to do
*something* to be able to say the words I-2-O. After all, PLX has been
working with WIND since day one; ISI can claim no special relationship
with PLX.
