I think that Akamai is attempting to be cache agnostic, but NTAP has some distinct advantages that will make Akamai a bit biased, I suspect.


This puts it in perspective for me. Looks like Akamai is the one holding the cards. Akamai has a proprietary architecture that enables data to be cached at the edge of the network. They call it the "FreeFlow" architecture, and it was originally developed at MIT. Even though NTAP is the only game in town at this moment, others can replicate what they have, and if Akamai is cache agnostic, then they can switch any time. Rereading the press release, I gathered that caching the data at the edge of the network was a key element of this whole scheme. That's Akamai's technology.

This does not mean that NetCache will not do well, but it would be awesome if somehow it was locked in to their Filers and storage servers.

Maybe I have this all wrong. Feel free to correct me.
