We have two bad choices re retirement funding

All I have read on the subject indicates that 401ks have been a disaster for most workers

Employers have used them as en excuse to eliminate or radically reduce traditional pensions. The parasites at the top have made out like bandits by increasingly shifting retirement risks away from employers and onto the heads of retirees.

Too many 401K participants are not smart investors -- like the public overall they tend to buy near tops and sell near troughs.
