Looking at the radar out of Key West ... radar.weather.gov Katrina is still south of the projected track. That may mean it will spend more time over the GOM and hit a little further west. Also - I like your idea of putting together sat loops. That would be cool. Maybe you could send your suggestion to NOAA. It would fun to click on old hurricanes and watch them develop.
