Point one: the history of industry, including hi-tech is replete with "robber barons".

And you are pointing out the good qualities of humans? The history of thieves and fellow humans that will stab someone in the back rather than build a better mousetrap. Great.

Point two: MSFT has done some good. They established a de facto standard.

I'll agree with that in the 80's and for the PC OS only. That's history. Since then they have broken EVERY imaginable standard attempted by the industry. They destroy innovation.

This will destroy our economy. It's only a matter of time. If you clowns think running the "information systems" of the economy off of late 70's technology (DOS) you'll are pretty naive.

Foreign countries aren't that stupid. They're putting everything into Linux. If humans can't do it through normal economics means they'll figure out a way to build a better mousetrap.

My hatred of Microsoft runs deep from them destroying my 15 year career. They created the Dilbert world with their powerpoint charts and excel spreadsheets. When the pointy hairs replaced UNIX with NT that was the final straw. I had to quit. I just couldn't take it more.
