"You had to homeschool" We didn't, the founders of the homeschooling association did. They were concerned about the watered down teaching of science and the general atmosphere of tension towards those who don't hold fundamentalist Christian beliefs. We homeschooled because our oldest didn't fit in to the way things were being taught. Bright kids just don't respond well to rote learning and drills. The fact that he also has a "fight to the death" approach to even small disagreements didn't help matters either. When he started to display OCD symptoms(pulling out of eye lashes, rocking in his seat, scratching bloody trails on his arms, etc.) we made other arrangements.
