i am an aol user. i have a 13 year old son who visits me some times. i use my computer for aol. i have lots of other software on it- like corel suite 8- i don't do much work on my home computer. i login under a password. then i get my desktop and my icons and software programs. my son has a different desktop as he doesn't have my password. he has a less recent version of aol. he downloads music and has wrestling screensavers and different downloaded software. the computer crashed. we went around in circles in scandisk. we lost the registry. we couldn't get into windows. the computer was win 95 , amd k6 233 mhz. i took the cpu to a computer repair guy. it is badly corrupted. it isn't worth much-and would cost more than it is worth-to repair it and it would be repaired only in part. i would like my favorite places and filing cabinet from aol and maybe some downloaded files and other files or programs. they would have to be checked to see if they are corrupted or have viruses. i don't know if it pays to retrieve the data, programs and what it should cost.
i have bought a new computer. 1.4 ghz 256 rdram dvd drive and cdrw drive. i kept my monitor and multi-function printer-copier-scanner.
my old computer may have crashed because of conflicts betweeen my and my son's software.
should i avoid msft programs and dellnet. or should i use aol and also dellnet and/or word, works, clipart, picture it, money, and msft e-mail, im, mailbox, audio programs.
i already have programs in aol or corel or elsewhere for all this stuff. i have adobe acrobat, complete scanning suite, corel draw, quicken 2000 and a whole lot more. they are more than i use. i only use a bit of them-and don't know how to use them to the max- altho i would like to use them better. i don't use draw, calendar, corelcentral-an addressbook, etc, and 50 other programs i have. i haven't reloaded a lot of stuff yest. much of it is a few years old. |
