I find DEC's virulence in this case surprising. I think if they were really serious, they would simply have sued on the patents. The claim of "willful infringement" and the full page ads suggest (to me at least) that they are trying to invent a scenario of a sinister conspiracy to profit in an area where they must know unintentional similarities are very common. It sounds to me like part of a dubious legal strategy.
