my first inclination is to think "maintenance headache and a half" -- but that is probably not right -- as technology comes along techniques are developed. Strangely enough -- one of the larger problems encountered where I worked (while I was there) was due to drought conditions -- water level got too low for intakes to one of the plants -- had to have special barges to pump the water.

My guess is that these tidal sources will be a great niche -- perhaps at some pt our energy needs will be met by a wide array of technologies -- a good part of which will be specific to our given environs?? Of course, I also believe only 1/4 of the answer is in generation technologies / techniques -- the other 3/4 will be in HOW we use energy.
