Actually, the situation today is much worse than 1918 because the virus is far more lethal. The case fatality rate is running at 70-80% in Asia. In 1918 it was much lower. That is why today's projections are using a 1% case fatality rate, which is well into the wishful thinking category. There is no evidence that today's 70% case fatality rate will drop to 1% just because the virus achieves efficient human to human transmission. The virus is quite sneaky
