Matches decided on penalties are counted as draws in this table.
The red (- negative) and blue (+ positive) numbers on the far right of the table
indicate the changes from 1994 to 1998.

Comment to the updated table:

No changes in the top five of the list.
Brazil, Germany, Italy and also Argentina look certain
to remain at their places for at least two more World Cups.
France climbed up four places and closed dramatically in on
England from being 13 points behind before the WC, to now only 5.
Yugoslavia and Holland both jump up well on the list.
Mainly because neither Sweden, Uruguay or Russia participated in France 98.
The biggest progress of all was made by Norway, they climbed up six places from being #41 to 35.
Iran climbed five places, but it's a lot easier to climb at the bottom half of the table.
Croatia in their first ever World Cup managed to take place #30.
The three other newcomers couldn't make it on the top 50.
