-SONOPRESS: Creative Disc widens the marketing designer's possibilities

Sonopress continues to operate at the forefront of
technical advances. The company is actively engaged in developing
on-line services and distribution and has been in the vanguard of DVD - creating the first PAL DVD Video in Europe and the first DVD ROM in
German.

M2 PRESSWIRE-5 September 1997-SONOPRESS: Creative Disc widens the
marketing designer's possibilities (C)1994-97 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Sonopress, the storage media business of the Bertelsmann Group - the
world's third largest media company with international interests
including TV, Radio, book, information, magazine and music publishing
and internet services - has announced details of its newest CD
replication style. Named the Creative Disc to reflect the disc's
possibilities as a special promotion or limited edition CD, unlike
Sonopress' Cut CD family, the Creative Disc is not limited to audio
applications only.

The Creative Disc is compatible with all conventional CD packaging as
well as any existing print artwork yet it offers great creative
potential, making it an ideal format for cover mounts or other marketing
applications where capacity is not limited.

The standard Creative Disc uses the same clear polycarbonate material to
carry the information as a conventional CD. Unlike its more conventional
sibling however, the spun aluminium reflective layer is only applied to
a small internal annulus - equivalent in size to that of a standard 8cm
CD - leaving the remainder of the CD clear. The printed side can then
have any shape or design overprinted. Sonopress has also developed a
special printing process to 'colour' the clear polycarbonate's
appearance should that be required.

In addition to the overprinting possibilities, Sonopress is also able to
offer non standard sized reflective areas and coloured polycarbonate
pressings.

Sonopress' customers, in addition to their own designs, are able to make
full use of the more than 1000 uniquely registered and patented print
designs Sonopress has created for its Cut CD family.

The original data can be supplied in all the usual formats, formatted to
ISO 9660/HFS, such as Gold Disc, Exabyte tape, 9-track tape, DAT and
hard disc with SCSI Interface. Other media can also accepted.

Sonopress UK director Sabine Leuerer concluded: "As the standard
Creative Disc has the same capacity as a conventional Maxi CD it
represents a potentially very effective marketing tool for many
organisations and is also particularly suited to special and limited
edition music titles."

Sonopress, formed in 1958, is a wholly owned subsidiary of the
Bertelsmann Group, one of the world's leading publishing houses.

assume complete responsibility for all aspects of CD production
including Pre-Mastering, Mastering, Printed Products such as booklets,

Its highly flexible approach means Sonopress can meet an extremely wide
range of replication needs from a few hundred copies to providing a
single local point of contact for projects which require distribution
anywhere in the world.

Sonopress' international operations also means it has a local
manufacturing facility servicing every major CD market in the world.

This combination of experience and flexibility has made Sonopress one of
the World's leading CD manufacturers.
