Williams says Q4 results to top consensus view

TULSA, Okla., Dec 26 (Reuters) - Natural gas pipeline operator Williams Cos. Inc. <WMB.N> said on Tuesday it expects to top analysts' consensus estimate for the fourth quarter on improved performance in its energy businesses.

Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams, whose holdings include an 85 percent-owned telecommunications business, said it expects its results to "substantially exceed" the First Call/Thomson Financial estimate of 17 cents per share.

The company plans to report its earnings on Jan. 31. More specific earnings guidance is not available, Williams said.

"The improvement is occurring in many areas of our energy businesses, but is primarily because of higher trading results," said Keith Bailey, chairman, president and chief executive. "This is due in large part to price volatility in the forward energy markets that is occurring throughout the nation."
