Some years ago my wife agreed to teach one semester in one of NY state colleges - one of their instructors was pregnant and needed time off. OK, she did that one semester, and we discovered that the benefits were great. After she returned to her practice, they put us on "cobra", and they probably forgot about us, because that inexpensive goody went on for a number of years. Eventually the state caught up with us.... and they gave us a time period AFTER which we would be no longer eligible for their coverage. Having to go back to paying market price for insurance was... no fun.
