I just checked our utility bills for the last year we lived in NJ (2005) and our electric was $150/month average (need A/C for the office computers), $110/month for water/sewage, gas for furnace and stove $150/month average, Comcast Internet/TV $130/month, landline phone $84/month for business line, $50/month cellphone. We owned 1/2 of a duplex with 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths and paid $1100/month for mortgage, $300 of which went for property taxes.

Utilities came to $674/month. Some of that was deductible because of our home business. Then of course there's food, auto insurance and repair, home insurance, sundry fees and 7% sales tax....it's of the the two reasons why we moved - the other to be near family.
