Ashford recused himself from the Plame investigation. A Special Prosecutor has been named. Reasons for the recusal are not stated but we can surmise that Ashcroft is covering his derriere.

This is bad for Bush as Ashcroft is obviously distancing himself from the investigation since there is probably something he saw he did not like or was too sensitive. Any damage may be containable if the Special Prosecutor acts swiftly enough so that any fall-out is not felt after the summer conventions, a big "if."

Not good.
