thecow, i noticed exactly the same issues with Explorer 6 (and 5.5 too) that you noticed, plus another annoying one:
when clicking on links the pointer doesn't become the typical "working in background" hourglass.
this, plus the semitransparent windows until fully loaded, and being unable to resize and/or move toolbars in full screen mode (F11).
that's why i also use, like you, IE 5.01 SP2.
IE 6 was fast though, but because of these issues i went back to good old reliable 5.01 SP2.
