Sure, they could be used to do that. But they are also buzzwords used by people who want to appear tech-savvy without understanding the details.

Securing the transactions are not the problem. It is ensuring that the people who are purportedly doing the transactions actually are, And are uncoerced and unbribed, Not to mention the problem of access.

Other than the convenience, which I applaud, your solution has similar problems as absentee voting. Without the paper trail. I suppose the blockchains could help with that, but it is just a complicated way of doing the same thing. Remember the furor over the lack of paper trails during the Dubya years?

The big stumbling block to ATMs in Texas was whether or not they were branch banks, which were illegal at the time in the state. It wasn't the lack of security..
