Not sure that I agree with the video.

"Democracy" doesn't imply or strongly suggest anything about equality other than perhaps an equal right to vote, nor does it imply the rulers have absolute power. "Republic" doesn't suggest liberty or that rulers don't have absolute power. Its main meaning is a government without a monarch. Its may be used in such a way as to imply representative democracy (as opposed to direct democracy), but it doesn't have to mean that, and "democracy" can also be used for representative democracy obviously with the modifier, but even without it.
