We leave our bulbs, tubers in the ground over winter. Even a beautiful French rose that I have in a huge, white plastic container survived the winter without protection. (I don't like the way roses look in clay pots.)I didn't think it would survive because I was in HK when we had some of the coldest weather.

I had to cut back most of the canes because they were ugly. They had black spots on them from the frost. The rose put shoots out from beneath. It should bloom soon.
