Company Press Release
RF Micro Devices Presents Single-Mode W-CDMA Chipset Solution
BOSTON (2000 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium)-- (BUSINESS WIRE)--June 13, 2000--RF Micro Devices Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD - news), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, today presented a complete single-mode W-CDMA chipset solution. It includes a power amplifier, low noise amplifier, mixer, IF amplifier/demodulator, modulator/IF amplifier, upconverter, and PA driver functions.

``The single-mode W-CDMA RF chipset has been developed based on our extensive experience in CDMA RFICs as well as specific feedback from many of our customers, particularly in Japan and Europe,'' stated Michael Coady, 3G wireless marketing manager at RF Micro Devices. The first W-CDMA-capable phones are expected to launch commercially in 2001, with prototype units this summer.

``The current chipset offers a complete RF to IF solution for W-CDMA using HBT, SiGe as well as BiCMOS process technologies. It is an example of the advantages in utilizing our Optimum Technology Matching© methodology,'' said Alastair Upton, director of digital cellular products at RF Micro Devices. ``We have a comprehensive road map in place and will continually improve our products to address single-mode W-CDMA as well as other 3G opportunities,'' Upton added.

The W-CDMA chipset meets the demands for 3G while also utilizing small leadless packages, high integration, low power consumption and is compatible with ARIB and ETSI requirements for IMT-2000.

In addition to the announced W-CDMA line, RFMD also provides solutions for all other 3G standards including GSM/EDGE, IS136/EDGE and cdma2000. RFMD offers a broad array of standard and custom designed RF applications based on multiple fabrication processes such as GaAs HBT, Si BiCMOS, GaAs MESFET and SiGe technology.

RF Micro Devices, Inc., an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer, designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary RFICs for wireless communications applications such as cellular and PCS phones, cordless phones, wireless LANs, wireless local loop handsets, industrial radios, wireless security systems and remote meter readers. The company offers a broad array of products -- including amplifiers, mixers, modulators/demodulators, and single-chip receivers, transmitters and transceivers -- representing a substantial majority of the RFICs required in wireless subscriber equipment. The company's strategy is to focus on wireless markets by offering a broad range of standard and custom-designed RFICs in order to position itself as a ``one-stop'' solution for its customers' RFIC needs. RF Micro Devices, Inc. is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol RFMD.
