FWIW on the TFT debate...

I purchased a low-end no-name 15" this summer in an effort to reclaim some desk space. The advertised resolution was also .30. I viewed many of the more expensive models at the time, and found the displays to be indistinguishable (to me) from the cheapo. As you may know, the display on the 15" TFT is approximately 0.5" in each dimension smaller than a 17" CRT. The CRT that was replaced was a 17" with .26 dot pitch. The TFT is much clearer than the CRT. Eyestrain is drastically reduced as a result. I don't know if the standards are precisely the same or can be applied uniformly for comparison of CRT's vs. TFT's. I like it so well I bought another for the wife's machine last month ($100 cheaper only two months later), and when the 17" TFT's drop to the $400 range, hopefully by the end of the year, I'll grab a cheapo of that size and pass this one along to my dad.
