"put option candidates"

this was a tough month for my puts, many of which are on 'value' stocks. just the same i am continuing to buy them. when the market drops it will be without warning, at least to me.

i had sold some covered may calls on microsoft earlier this week when the volatility was over 48. bought some back late today and plan to buy back the rest on monday. i am not comfortable with calls short even if i own the stock. buying back calls at a loss can be a substantial cash hit, notwithstanding that the value of the underlying shares have gone up. rolling up or out does not appeal to me either.

by the way mr stock has option volatility calculator and volatility charts which you may find interesting. link was posted a few weeks ago by charles.
