Any reasonable person would have to question those installed base numbers from Pew. From the Samsung-Apple trial, we know that Apple has sold 34 million iPads in the US from 2010 to June 2012. Over the same time frame, Samsung has sold a total of 1.4 million tablets into the US. For Android to have 48% of the US tablet installed base, manufacturers other than Samsung would have needed to sell 30 million Android tablets in the US. Let me put that in perspective of the other potential players: Asus has sold 2.2 million tablets cumulatively globally as of their last report. Motorola shipped 1 million total tablets in CY 2011.
