Not counting units in the channel as inventory is common practice, as I learned the hard way, but that is another story..

That could be true in practice. I don't have any expierience with accounting in real life. All I know is what I lernt in skule. GAAP are very specific about how the revenue recognition principal is applied. It's to protect shareholders that companies are allowed to mess with it.
