Anti-American Lies: The world is full of them now.
Heard an interview with a British muslim on the radio when heading to work this morning. Said he, like other Muslims, felt glad on 9/11. That the innocent lives lost onm 911 don't compare to the "millions of Muslims who have been killed". He went on to say "his people are being killed around the world".
Over the weekend went through a Walgreens and noticed the cover of Rolling Stone on the magazine area. On the front it had an article about Guantanamo which it called "America's Torture Prison". A few weeks back I recalled seeing an episode of Law and Order with a villian who was a female psychiatrist who used "torture" techniques she'd employed in Guantanamo to get an impressionable young man to commit a crime. The "torture" consisted of locking someone in a dark cell and playing techno music. That's it. Seemed pretty mild torture-wise. I thought torture was inflicting intense pain.
What's striking is how matter of fact these lies are. If you want to know why America's image abroad is poor, its because the world's media is stuffed to the gullet with anti-American lies.
The fact is neither the US or Britain have killed millions of Muslims. The only people who have killed millions of Muslims in the past half century are other Muslims themselves. Like Saddam Hussein - he's caused the deaths of at least a million and a half Muslims. The Sudanese regime has killed hundreds of thousands of black Darfurian Muslims - not up to a million yet, but they're off to a good start.
Another fact is that it is Muslims are slaughtering lots of non-Muslim civilians around the world. In many places - Nigeria, Sudan, Israel, Pakistan, India, Thailand, Indonesia, the Phillipines, Europe, and occasionally in this country (see Seattle last month, the DC area a couple years ago, 911, and more to come), It is overwhelmingly Muslims who are the violent aggressors in today's world. And it is we infidels and kufar who should be outraged by it.
Guantanamo is not a "torture prison" - its constantly monitored by the Red Cross and visited by outsiders frequently - and the prisoners there are treated humanely. It is the guards at Guantanamo who are frequent victims of violence.
We need to stop tolerating lies and confront them. |
