New Software From Darim Detects Motion -- Records Intruder, Sounds Alarm

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- When two notebook computers were
stolen from the headquarters of Darim Vision, a leading vendor of MPEG
encoding and playback products, the president and CEO decided to solve the
problem. The result was PC SnOOp(TM) software, a new low cost yet highly
effective solution for protecting homes and offices from theft. Using an
ordinary PC and low cost digital video camera, PC SnOOp combines digital
video capture and motion detection to sense intruders and record their
movements.
PC SnOOp integrates into Windows 95 and Windows NT screen saver programs
so that intruders cannot know that the software is running. Once installed,
the software uses any desktop digital video camera to monitor the areas of
home and office most vulnerable to theft and vandalism. PC SnOOp then
detects any movement in the monitored areas and digitally captures the
intruder in full motion.
PC SnOOp provides three levels of security. In the first, the "stealth
surveillance mode," the software captures all activity within the panoramic
view of the camera's lens, and records the activity on the computer's hard
disk. Once the motion has ended, the camera returns to the "sleep" mode
until the next interruption. Each interruption is recorded, along with the
time, date and duration of the security breach, making a digital movie of
the perpetrator's actions.
Repelling, as well as recording the intruder, the "WatchDog Mode" sounds
an alarm at the same time it captures the video. The default alarm is a
barking dog.
The third level of security, the "Video Answering Machine Mode," adds
interactivity. Upon detecting motion, the "digital secretary" plays a
recorded message such as "Hi, Welcome to your name industries, leave us a
video message and we will get back to you."
PC SnOOp requires a 75 MHz or faster Pentium computer with 16 MB of RAM
and a parallel port video camera (or video camera with digital video capture
card). The MSRP for PC SnOOp is $99.
