Well my fantasy SEPR drug is desmethyl sibutramine, not "Super Prozac." Remember that Meridia was originally developed as an anti-depressant. I have to believe that a safe and effective antidepressant that "incidentally" also causes weight loss might cause as much stir as Viagra.

On the other hand, if SEPR is ever going to get a patent challenge this might be it. Not because the patent is weak (being both a metabolite and a chiral switch it's actually strong), but because Knoll will have nothing to lose by a challenge. Knoll is also going to be a tad "upset" at having their 5 year patent extension sidestepped, and by a better drug. Just as the pharmas routinely challenge new generics, so I suspect might Knoll with Meridia II.
